FAQ
The 1-drum roaster has a special fan built in the exhaust. The fan is strong enough to enable the necessary airflow required through the drum during roasting and to collect enough chaff from the drum, but not always all.
Having a cyclone connected to the 1 drum roaster or not doesn’t affect the quality of roast. Without a cyclone it doesn’t separate air and chaff meaning it is just a question of cleanliness.
This model is manufactured without cyclone to save costs and we advise clients to either transport the air/ chaff outside or into a bin via the pipe. A very good option also is to attach an air permeable bag to the exhaust, which lets air through but collects the chaff.
Lastly, we do produce an optional cyclone and if required, please contact us. (2,4,6 drum roasters come with a cyclone as standard)
Comes at a much more competitive price than other serious wold class manufacturers.
Shipping time is faster.highly competitive sea and air freight rates.
Coffee PRO Direct can supply you with many other items for your coffee lab or commercial roasting facility making procurement more efficient. Example: coffee trays with your logo, sample sieves, sample spear, sample huller, grinder, cupping table, spittoons, moisture meters….commercial coffee roasters, mixer… and many more… please click through our website for full product overview.
If you select our 4-drum roaster it has 2 motors installed (2 for each drum). It means that you do not wear out the entire machine and save electricity if you decide to use only 2 drums at times where the lab is less busy.
Our roaster has digital thermo control over analogue and you can do data logging with open source software such as Typica or Artisan if we install extra thermocouples for you (optional)
You will receive a 1 year warranty and we have all spare parts available, if necessary. when you purchase a sample roasting machine we will send you a sheet showing all parts of the machine, numbered and catalogued.
Our sample coffee roasters are extremely durable and require very little maintenance. In fact, they have been built in a way that you do not depend on us as the manufacturer.
- Use it like a production roaster. It’s “the big thing in small”
- Control over airflow via control knob
- Control over temperature setting/ repeatability.
Dial from 1-10 for gas/ electric heat setting. Programmable peak temperature (gas on/ off via solenoid valve, electric halogen bulbs on off) - You can see the gas flame facing the machine during roasting
- Full control over all aspects of roasting due to open roasting drum (see, hear, smell during roasting process) this enables full potential know how of all your coffees
- 8x in-house produced bunsen type burners for all gas versions.
- Concerning machines with electric heat, we supply 3x spare halogen lamps with the machine.
- Roasting time between 8-15 minutes
- Cooling in less than 3 minutes
- Very easy/ little maintenance. Our machine comes with a maintenance kit and is easier to maintain making you Independent in the long run.
- Easy to understand operation
- Classic/ timeless design
- Affordable spare parts, mostly independently available in all countries.

The general perception is that gas is better than electric but this is not always true. There are some advantages and disadvantages you should elaborate on before making a decision to buy one of our sample coffee roasters.
The electric version is more accurate to control heat output than the gas version. meaning that with an electric heat supply it is easier to repeat temperature settings as electric currents are very stable and for example setting 7 on a scale of 1-10 on the control of the machine means exactly setting 7.
Gas pressure may vary due to factors such as the consistency of gas supply, amount of gas left in the bottle, environmental temperature etc.
This may lead to inconsistency in gas flame. A trained roaster may overcome such obstacles if he/she is able to detect the desired flame by eye sight. for this purpose we have a flame window in the front part of the burner chamber. Through this window the flame can be observed at all times.
The advantage of gas is that heat transfer is faster in case you want to have faster control over heat during the roasting process. However, if the purpose of a sample roaster is for determining coffee quality on a “all samples roasted equal” basis then electric is fine and one can also argue more reliable due to mentioned reasons. If it is to mimic production roasts that require sporadic increases and decreases of heat, then consider gas.
You should also examine which machine is cheaper to run depending on the country of operation. The electric version consumes 1500w of power per each drum, 500w per halogen light. The gas version consumes only 25w required for the motor to run the gears and some very minor additional energy requirements.
Assuming that you do care about the environment, which machine appears cleaner to you?
Lastly, electric models are slightly more competetive in price than their gas rivals because they do not require a solenoid gas valve to regulate the heat supply in conjunction with the digital thermo control unit.
